General Description

FINSERV BAC is an aqueous based quaternary ammonium preservative with an optimised alkyl chain length distribution which provides broad spectrum control of bacteria and moulds in a range of personal care products. Its gentle nature means it can be used in both rinse off and leave on applications where mildness is an important feature.

Preservative Properties

FINSERV BAC is a rapid acting preservative for control of bacteria and fungi in both rinse off and leave on applications. Its strong cationic nature make it incompatible with products containing anionic surfactants but it can be used to good effect with other cationic, amphoteric and non-ionic components.

At addition levels of between 0,08% and 0,13% FINSERV BAC will control those bacteria and fungi which are potential contaminants of personal care products.

Application Areas

FINSERV BAC may be used in those products which do not contain anionic surfactants, for example:

• Moisturisers
• Conditioners
• Emollients

Recommended Use Levels

The maximum permissible level for FINSERV BAC in personal care applications is 0,2%. All preparations containing FINSERV BAC must be labelled ‘Avoid contact with the eyes’.

Effective levels in creams and lotions will be in the range 0,08-0,13% 

Since there is considerable variation in the composition of cosmetics  and toiletries which may affect the efficacy of preservatives, manufacturers should confirm the level required to ensure protection and avoid any potential incompatibility.
